Tsk, Tsk, Tsk, Kanye!
| Quote: | | Kanye West has stirred up another controversy about race. The rapper, who made headlines when he declared that George W. Bush
doesn’t care about black people, has startled some with his comments about the offspring of racially mixed couples. “If it wasn’t for race mixing
there’d be no video girls,” West is quoted as saying in the January issue of Essence magazine. “Me and most of our friends like mutts a lot.

Snippet from MSNBC Entertainment page: The Scoop
Ok, much of this is from a gossip section of MSNBC, but a well reputed one at least. How do you view Kanye's comments?
I find it upsetting on several levels. First in that he feels it's ok to refer to other people as animals for starters, knowing he wouldn't
appreciate being called one himself. Then, saying that the Video industry is existent on the backs of Bi-racial/multi-ethnic women which I think is a
blatant exaggeration. More now than any other time I see women in all shades shaking their asses equally in these videos. And they even throw in a
"token" white girl nowadays as well. Funny how that script got flipped.
I think his comment once again brings us back to a time of the brown paper bag test and people being color struck and this entire current thing of
people like Ciara and Beyonce that appearance wise are more Eurocentric beautiful than anything else. BUT, the tide is changing and I DO see more
women of darker tones representing EVERYWHERE. On Tv shows, in magazines, even in Kanye's videos so I don't know where he is getting this.
I guess I would like to hear him expand upon that quote and see what he says. He usually treads between good and bad on any given song/day and that's
according to his own words, so I would really like to hear a more in depth version of what he was trying to say. Leave it to a columnist to take a
quote and make it what they want to hear. Since we don't know what he said before that or after that, it's possible this was taken out of context
and shouldn't stand alone. Just the same, I wasn't pleased by it.
squint your eyes and look closer
I'm not between you and your ambition
I am a poster girl with no poster
I am thirty-two flavors and then some
and I'm beyond your peripheral vision
so you might want to turn your head
cause someday you're going to get hungry
and eat most of the words you just said

Dont be mad a Kanye for bringing to the light what the world seems to ignore!
Let's be honest, mainstream media correlates lighter skinned, long hair black women with being beautiful!
Of course there are exceptions to this trend, but the point is still the same. Do you think it is a mere coincidence that black women who look more
like thin, lightskin barbie dolls are super successful? I dont think so. I think that it is what society deems "beautiful." And there are
millions of black women who are willing to put on lighter make-up and wear blonde wigs if it means super stardom and millions of dollars.

My sentiments to the letter.

He who knows not and knows he knows not, he is a student, teach him.
But he who knows not, and knows not that he knows not…
He is a FOOL, pity him.

Kanye just needs to learn how to say things. He's too raw although most of his comments concerning society in my opinion has some validity.
Be respectful and so will I.

Its called SHOCK VALUE!
For some reason people pay attention to the delivery MORE than the message. It was the same issue when Bill Cosby stood up and said what needed to be
said.
I think that Kanye is a rare role model in the music industry. Obviously he will not allow the mainstream to brainwash him into believing that he
should just use his celebrity status to only sign autographs and make guest appearances on TRL!
Allow SOMEONE to answer the call for a next gewneration Martin or Malcom.

I will agree that Kanye needs a lesson in tact and an ego check but his sediments are not that far fetched if fetched at all.

I actually read through Essence Magazine and came across the quote and almost fell out my seat.
Kanye is a fool. He is ignorant even though he parades as having some sense.
His comments may not have had anything to do with commenting about what society views as beautiful, etc. His comments were about bi-racial women all
up in rap videos. He called them mutts. In fact, he said in the quote that that is how all rappers refer to them...as mutts.
He talks to hear himself talk. Later, he'll say something to try to bring the comments full circle and those comments may or may not make any sense
either.
Stop quoting Kanye. Now...he's no better than any other rapper.

We always seem to attack the messenger and it takes away from the validity of the message.
Kanye is in an Ego dominated profession. He sells records based on boasting and bragging, and instead of tucking his tail between his legs and
allowing society to place him in a box, he seems to want to do more. Why not embrace him?

My sentiments exactly. The fact that he referes to bi-racial women as mutts and he and his friends like them, says he has little or no respect for
females period, and the fact that he likes them, doesn't say much for him. He is no better than any of the other rappers out there.
He says things to get heard and to get a reaction. I don't think he cares about social value, if he did he would be more tactful about what he says.
He is nothing but a thug in a suit as far as I'm concerned

I also think Kanye talks to hear himself talk. although some things he says are valid. his arrogance and conceit and the way he cries about every
little thing that doesn't go his way, makes me not want to listen to anything he has to say. i like him less and less eveytime he opens his mouth.

^^^BK, Kanye can be such a buster at times. If he ain't saying something from the side of his neck, he's damn near in tears complaining about some
award he should have won/deserved. While I do agree that a lot of the videos are filled with either mixed or pure latina chicks, I think Kayne just
said it in a way to get a rise out of folks. He constantly has diarrhea of the mouth and constipation of the brain!

Unitl we know the original context...we can't say. I read his quote from Essence magazine and it seemed kinda randumb.
I don't know that he was talking about "stereotyopes" and what "society" thinks is good vs. what we think is good. He was just calling folks
mutts...and commenting on bi-racial women.
