Moving to Atlanta!
We're looking into moving to Atlanta.
We're looking for a family friendly neighborhood we can raise our two little boys.
We want to buy a single-family house between 200K-350K, and we want to send our kids to a top private school.
Any suggestions?

I hope it all works out for you there. Atlanta is tough. The primary reason I moved away from there was the school system. Maybe private school
would be different but public school was horrible. As far as neighborhoods go, really do your research. Insure that you visit the hood at nite. I
thought I had moved into a safe environment. I wasn't buying a home and lived in an apartment but the complex that looks so aesthetically pleasing
during the daylight was horrible at night. Crime is what ran me out of Atlanta because of the fact I had younger children.
For professionals, and those who enjoy a great night life. Atlanta is great and I miss the job I had there. For raising children, I would look to
live in Marietta if I could afford it.
Be respectful and so will I. Cross the line and so will I.

Roswell is nice. I think the homes start there at $200,000.

Depends...
Do you prefer to live in a predominantly Black Middle Class Area? There are parts of Lithonia that are very nice.... and gated communities in SW
Atlanta that are nice...
Do you prefer to live in a mixed area..? Marietta, Buckhead area is nice...

Thanks.
Is the traffic really that bad? That sounds almost as bad as DC traffic.

Here is a link to private schools in Atlanta. http://privateschool.about.com/od/atlanta/Atlanta_Area_Schools.htm I recommend Greater Atlanta Christian School. Stone
Mountain, Lithonia area is very nice, but like Khalliqa stated it depends on what kind of enviornment you are looking for.
Stone Mountain and Lithonia are perdomenantly middle to high class black families, while Buckhead, Roswell, Alpharetta are multi-racial upper class
families.

Is College Park bad?
What is the scoop on the Woodward school?
We are thinking that we want a middle class black community but a mixed private school so our kids know they are as smart as anyone else.

^^^Dag, TH, but you're smart... and a thoughtful parent (along with your wife). The mystery of isolation brings fear, doubt, prejudice and for black
childrn bombarded with positive YT and negative black images, self-doubt. Not to mention the wishin 'n hopin fallacy of there being a people who
aren't mean and petty and will hurt your feelings and if you can just get one to notice you and be your friend, your life will be as stress-free and
perfect as theirs and their neighbors, the Brady Bunch.
P.S. Just make sure the school is at least 30% black. A mix of 30/70 effectively makes a school black - black culture and oriented. A smaller
percentage of blacks and your children will exponentally be more likly to suffer racism, abuse and/or Tomism as the white kids familial racial values
will predominate.

I went to a mixed grade schools and so did my wife. We think it's important to learn early that yt kids and others are no brighter than us.

T.H. I think its admirable that you want your children to be in class/interact with children of different back grounds. I personally feel that if
our children are exposed to the grass on the other side of the fence, they will start to see that its not always greener.

However, this is not really an even mixture- Woodward had 80% white kids in 2005

Check these stats

This one seems a little more even numbered. But I have no personal experience of this school.

Where did I say I wasn't smart? I don't want my kids to have an inferiority complex to anyone. The best way I know to fix that is to have them
compete with them and see for themselves.
