LAS VEGAS—Comedian Wanda Sykes says the passage of a same-sex marriage ban in California has led to her be more outspoken about being gay.
“You know, I don’t really talk about my sexual orientation. I didn’t feel like I had to. I was just living my life, not necessarily in the closet,
but I was living my life,” Sykes told a crowd at a gay rights rally in Las Vegas on Saturday.
“Everybody that knows me personally they know I’m gay. But that’s the way people should be able to live their lives,” she said.
Sykes, who is known for her feisty and blunt style, said the passage of California’s Proposition 8 made her feel like she was “attacked.”
“Now, I gotta get in their face,” she said. “I’m proud to be a woman. I’m proud to be a black woman, and I’m proud to be gay.”
Sykes’ appearance at the Las Vegas rally surprised organizers. She was in town performing at the Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino.
The recent events out in Cali have apparently done a lot to unite the gay and lesbian community. Good for Wanda for finally coming out of the closet.
We have to say that winning an order of small fries from McDonald’s was more of a surprise than this.

she is a comedian, she should of used the word lesbian instead of gay...the only problem i have with black people coming out the closet is, can they
afford to come out the closet?
my self worth is not tied up in your acceptence of me !

last name rhymes with.....
j/k!
Anyway, good for her, but maybe it would have been better to come out before the prop 8 vote. It probably wouldn't have made a difference, but you
never know. Personally I don't think these things should be up to a popular vote, but that's a different discussion.

Is this really a surprise to anyone?? I really don't care whether a person is gay, straight, strange whatever. But, Wanda was not convincing as a
straight person, even when she was being funny. I still think she is very entertaining to watch, no matter what she does off camera/stage.

Nope I didn't see that one coming but I did wonder if she was or not. Oh well...I still love her as a comedienne.

I wondered when she changed her hair style.....but it was a passing thought. And she did look uncomfortable in dresses......when she hosted that
awards show....and I could never picture her with a man, she just gave off butch undercurrents....now here it is.

Just an observation but she looks like the black version of Ellen in that outfit she is wearing in that pic.
